About

I have been passionately immersed in ceramics since I was 18 years old. My journey began at Jane James Ceramics in Jersey, Channel Islands, where I honed my skills in slip pouring earthenware, brush-on glazing, and kiln loading. This foundation sparked a lifelong passion for clay and inspired me to pursue further education and training in the field.

Eager to expand my expertise, I enrolled in classes at my local adult education center and eventually invested in my own pottery wheel and kiln. My pursuit of knowledge took me on an exciting path, including an intensive wheel throwing course in Vienna with Eric Landon. Eric later provided me with additional training in Copenhagen and an apprenticeship at his renowned Tortus studio in London. Under his mentorship, I refined my throwing techniques, learned the art of teaching, and connected with a vibrant global community of ceramic enthusiasts.

After my enriching experience in London, I dedicated six months to deepening my understanding of ceramics. I attended a transformative course at La Meridiana under the guidance of Luigi Pullini, where I explored wild clay, glazes, and wood firing—a process that deepened my respect for the medium and connected me to the traditions of ancient pottery. During this time, I also experimented with alternative firing techniques like raku, barrel, and saggar firing in Devon, UK. My journey continued with a three-month intensive course at the Corrie Bain Ceramics School in Barcelona, where I acquired a diverse range of skills including surface decoration, teapot making, and hand building, with a particular interest in Asian techniques such as Korean Buncheong, Neriage, and Nerikomi.

In 2023, I returned to Jersey to share my knowledge and passion by teaching introduction courses in Nerikomi and Neriage techniques, as well as beginner classes at Highlands College. My love for teaching has since flourished, prompting me to pursue a Level 2 Train the Trainer course through City and Guilds to further enhance my pedagogical skills. Additionally, I've collaborated with ArtHouse Jersey to facilitate workshops for primary school students, helping them sculpt miniature woodland animals—a truly rewarding experience that highlights the joy of creativity in young minds.

Currently, I am focused on creating a body of work in my studio while continuing to teach beginner, intermediate, and studio-level classes at Highlands College. As I develop my personal style, I remain deeply committed to both my artistic journey and my role as an educator in the ceramics community.
